Datia-fort   Datia is a small village and an administrative district of Madhya Pradesh, India. Formerly this town was a princely state of Madhya Pradesh during the British Raj. Datia is one of the major excursion destinations from Gwalior, which lies just 74 km from Gwalior. Datia is an ancient town, which also has been mentioned in the Indian epic Mahabharata where it was called Daityavakra.

The district was a state in the Bundelkhand region, known then just by the town of Datia. The place was ruled by the Rajputs of the clan Bundela, who were also descendants of the younger son of a former raja of Orchha.

After India's independence in 1947, the Maharaja of Datia acceded unto the dominion of India; it later merged with the union of India.

Datia is a place which is known for Siddhapeeth of Shri Peetambra Devi, a Hindu holy place located at the entrance of Datia which is said to hold the power of the Hindu goddess Pitambra. Also, Buglamukhi Devi Temple, Gopeshwar Temple and Sonagiri, a sacred Jain center are highly popular pilgrimage spots and on festivals, thousands of devotees come here to worship.

One can also visit the Datia fort that is a huge attraction, built in 1620 AD by the Raja Bir Singh Deo is known to have 400 rooms within the palace. The seven storied marvel is the best example of Bundela architecture has a towering height of 130 feet. The unique aspect is that two stories are underground. The palace also houses several Bundela paintings.
