Gwalior is widely known as a historic capital, located in India state of Madhya Pradesh.  It is a huge land of rich culture and heritage that reflects in its various fairs and festivals celebrated throughout the year in traditional ways.

Like any other part of India, Gwalior celebrates numerous festivals but one of the most famous festivals of the city includes Tansen Music Festival. This festival is celebrated in the most uncommon way.

Tansen Music Festival: This is the gathering of musicians and singers, well known as Tansen Sangeeth Sammelan. It is held yearly during November and December, within a span of five nights. During this musical festival numerous musical numbers are sung by renowned classical and folk singers including - Gargi Vora, Harikant Sevak, Bihari Hemu Gadhvi, Asif Zeriya, Nidhi Dholakiya, and Arunkant Sevak.

Apart from singing, seminars about classical music, a heritage walk and an exhibition of traditional instruments are also organized that ideally increase the excitement of the celebration.  The other main attraction of the festival is five ancient gates that are enlightened with thousands of lamps. The ancient gates include - Nandiol, Eithodi, Arajanbari, Amthor Darwaza and the Ghaskot Darwaza.

Finally, the Tansen Samman (award) is presented to the best and deserving classical musicians in the field of classical music.
