The Gwalior Fort is the pride of not only Gwalior but also Madhya Pradesh, India. Built by Raja Man Singh Tomar in the 15th century, this fort is situated at Gopachal, nearly 100m above the town of Gwalior. Spread out over an area of 3 square km.
The fort showcases some of the best architectural magnificence which makes it a must-see tourist attraction. This fort was described by the Mughal Emperor Babur as 'the pearl in the necklace of the castles of Hind'.

This grandiose fort with its concrete sandstones walls has three temples, six palaces and numerous water tanks in its vicinity. Gwalior fortress has been under the ownership of various kings and kingdoms. This is the reason one can witness amalgamation of various cultures in Gwalior.

This unbeatable castle was ruled by the Tomars, Mughals, Marathas and the British; it was finally handed over to the Scindias. The Gwalior Fort with its charm and majestic outlook has made a mark on the face of Indian History. Positioned high on the hills the fort offers an unmatched and picturesque view of the Gwalior City.

Gwalior Fort Attractions

The fort of Gwalior holds countless tourist attractions inside its high walls, like the stunning palaces and temples. The entrance and the gates to the fort are huge, majestic and highly impressive. There are three magnificent temples inside the fort and the most important of them is Teli Ka Mandir.

Built in the 9th century dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is a combination of Dravidian architecture and Indo-Aryan architecture style. The great palaces inside the fort are the Karan Palace and Jehangir Mahal.

Amongst all of the palaces of the fort the best is the Man Singh Palace that has walls and floors decorated with brilliant collection of tiles and colors. The several old age water tanks are also something to look out for.
