Orchha was established by the Bundela Rajput in the 16th century and was the capital of the Bundelkhand region. Lying 120 km from Gwalior on the road to Khajuraho, Orchha is famous for its palaces and temples, built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Hindu Bundela rulers, allies of the Moguls, build Orchha at the banks of the river Betwa. |
Orchha has a lot to say about the dynasties that ruled in the territory. The historical monuments of Orchha still retain their pristine charm and narrate stories of war and peace, of love and destruction. Orchha possesses a number of locations ranging from historical palaces to temples.
