Shivpuri is a northern district of Madhya Pradesh, and lies around 105 km from Gwalior. Shivpuri a major excursion spot from Gwalior offers tourists some of the finest and beautiful landscapes consisting of small hills and deciduous forests. The place derives its name from the Hindu God Shiva.
Shivpuri was earlier known as Sipri. It has a rich royal legacy. The history of Shivpuri dates back to the Mughal period. The dense forests of Shivpuri were the royal hunting grounds. Emperor Akbar is credited with capturing elephants from these forests. It was also the summer capital of the Scindhia rulers of Gwalior.

Madhav Vilas Palace: This palace is one of the most beautiful buildings in Madhya Pradesh. Madhav Vilas Palace was once the summer palace of the Scindias. Presently it is the training centre of the Intelligence Bureau of the Government of India.

George Castle: The George Castle is located within the Madhav National Park. t was constructed by Jiwaji Rao Scindia. A visit to the George Castle enables you to have a great view of the National Park and the Sakhya Sagar Lake.

Chhatris: Chhatri was constructed by the Scindia Princes; these are marble cenotaphs that are very well decorated. The royal Chhattris are the memories of the Scindias and are known for their intricate designed and beautiful motifs. The chhattris or the cenotaphs feature Islamic and Hindu architectural designs.

Madhav National Park:
Situated between Jhansi-Shivpuri this national park is spread over 157.58 sq kms. The Madhav National Park is home to pochard, teal, laggar falcon, migratory geese, mallard, chinkara, chital, cormorant and Indian gazelle.
