| Located within the very premises of the majestic Gwalior Fort, the Suraj Kund is believed to have existed much before the city of Gwalior. A fascinating legend is associated with the Suraj Kund. It is believed that king Suraj Sen after tasting the water of this kund was healed of his illness. This is exactly the place where the Rajput chieftain was healed by the Sage Gwalipa. It is then that the king built the Suraj tank as a token of his thankfulness for the sage & also named the city after him. Today, the Suraj Kund is considered to be a popular sacred place of the city of Gwalior. Owing to the sumptuousness & historic value of this water tank, it attracts thousands of visitors from across the country. |
